whitesboroThe Homer Trojans reeled off five, first period goals against the Whitesboro Warriors and never looked back this afternoon at Wadas Field, on the campus of Whitesboro High School, en route to a 13-4 boy’s lacrosse win.

Homer, the Freedom National Conference frontrunner, had big offensive efforts from Anthony Basile and Bailee Goddard, who netted four goals apiece on the afternoon.

Whitesboro, having a rough go of it so far, is winless in nine starts this season. The Warriors are now (0-4) in conference play as well.

Warriors attack Ryan Shannon (12) had a two goal day for the home team.

The Warriors had two goals from junior, Ryan Shannon, and a goal apiece from Phil Spiridigloizzi and Logan Gagne.

The Warriors are looking for their first Freedom American Conference win.

The first twenty-four minutes of this contest were dictated more by mother nature and less by the talent of either team, as a steady wind drove a constant drizzle all over the playing surface.

Homer took a 5-1 lead to the second period, with Basile and Goddard combining for four of the first five Trojan goals.

Despite the score, the two teams were separated by just one ground ball, as Homer finished the first quarter with twelve and Whitesboro eleven after the first twelve minutes.

Homer outscored Whitesboro, just 1-0, in the second quarter, but still grabbed a 6-1 lead after the first half of play.

The Trojans put four more on the board in the third frame, while Gagne and Shannon tallied for Whitesboro.

whitesboroHomer’s lead grew to 10-3 heading to the fourth.

The aggressive, sometimes overly physical play that resulted in multiple second half penalties against the home side, did clear the way for three more Trojan scores in the fourth quarter.

Phil Spiridigloizzi had the lone goal for Whitesboro in the fourth, on a laser beam shot from about 20 feet away, but it was too little, too late, as Homer went on to the 13-4 win.

Jack Connery made four saves in goal for Homer, while Pat Husnay stopped six of thirteen shots for Whitesboro.

Whitesboro’s Phil Spiridigloizzi (4) wins a second half faceoff and a little something extra on the ball.

The Warriors will look to put one in the win column when they host Jamesville-DeWitt on Thursday.
