The Whitesboro Lady Warriors Volleyball Team made the trip West on Route 49 tonight to tangle with the Lady Black Knights of RFA in a Tri-Valley League game.

After a sluggish start, Whitesboro came back to knock off the Lady Black Knights by a score of 3 matches to 1.

The first match went to the home standing Romans, 25-22, largely due to the front line work of Alaina Johnson, who accounted for 3 kills in the first game.

Brandi Blaszek crushes a game three kill.

RFA’s Jordan Solomon, Brianna Scales and Lindsay Bartlett each had service aces for the Black Knights in game one to shock the visiting Lady Warriors early on.

The Romans held commanding leads of 7-2 and 11-4 in the opening match to put the favored Lady Warriors back on their heels.

The second game saw Whitesboro go to their, well, “go to” girl, senior Brandi Blaszek, who entered  tonight’s game with 169 digs on the season.

In the second game Blaszek nailed 9 of her game high 26 total kills to lead her team to a recovering 25-10 win, to even the game at one match apiece.

Carly Lonczak, another Whitesboro senior and the team’s assist leader, set up Blaszek 7 times in the second game, with 4 digs each from Mary Pastorelli and Bekah Geller in the backcourt.

Game three also belonged to the Warriors, 25-14, who went up two games to one.

The Lady Knights had no answer for the play above the net by Blaszek, who collected 8 more second game kills for Whitesboro.

Madison Kosuda logged 5 kills of her own in the third game for Whitesboro. Carly Lonczak collected 8 more assists in the third game, while Lindsay Bartlett had 5 assists in the same frame for RFA.

Whitesboro rattled off 6 straight points in the fourth game, largely off the killer hands of Blaszek and Kosuda, who combined to kill 11 shots in the final game to lead their team to a 25-14 win.

With the victory, Whitesboro improved to (7-1, 1-1) on the season, with their loss coming at the hands of TVL leading Oneida back on December 14, 2012.

RFA enjoys a big game one win.

The TVL is sure to be a race to the finish this season as New Hartford, Proctor and Whitesboro are all tied at (1-1) and sit right behind league leading Oneida (3-0).

Whitesboro travels to New Hartford one week from tonight for a critical game in the chase for the league championship.

Tonight’s loss dropped RFA to (1-7, 0-3) on the season.

Lindsey Bartlett led the Lady Black Knights tonight with 2 aces, 10 assists and 8 digs. Jordan Solomon filled every category for the Romans with 3 aces, 2 kills, 1 assist, 1 block and 2 digs.

Rome will look to get back into the win column when they travel to Canastota for a non-league game next week.

Whitesboro was led by Blaszek, who finished with 26 kills, 12 blocks, 8 aces, 1 assist and 2 digs.

Carly Lonczak assisted on 36 of Whitesboro’s 97 total points tonight.
