Marcus Smithling scored 15 points to lead No. 4 state-ranked Oriskany to a 58-50 victory over No. 5 New York Mills Monday night. The Redskins improve to 17-0 overall and 10-0 in league competition.

Oriskany started strong, jumping out to a 22-10 lead in the first quarter. The Marauders hung with their league rival for the rest of regulation, but the Redskins defense managed to maintain the deficit and secure Oriskany’s 17th straight win.

Oriskany’s Richard Phelps matched his season-high with 13 points. Ryan Schmadel, the program’s all-time leading scorer, contributed 10 points in the victory. He has averaged precisely 20 points per game this season, for a total of 360.

Terrance Nichols led New York Mills with 24 points, while Griffin Baur chipped in 9.

Oriskany will host Owen D. Young (6-11) Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- The Wesleyan University men’s ice hockey team took on #15 Hamilton College Sunday afternoon at Spurrier Snyder Arena. The Cardinals rallied late in the game, but eventually fell to the Continentals, 2-1.

RECORDS:

Wesleyan: 2-9-7, 2-4-6 NESCAC

Hamilton: 12-4-2, 7-3-2 NESCAC

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Hamilton scored a goal in each of the first two periods to give themselves a 2-0 advantage.
Wesleyan was able to get a goal with 7:53 remaining in the game to cut the Continentals lead in half at 2-1.
Cardinals goaltender Dawson Sprigings ’17 made 19 saves in the loss.
Hamilton net minder, Evan Buitenhuis made 42 saves to earn the victory.
Wesleyan outshot Hamilton 43-21 in the game.

Oriskany boys basketball player Ryan Schmadel scored 15 points to lead the Redskins to a 82-42 victory over Holland Patent in a non-league game on Saturday.

Schmadel now as 1,579 career points as he surpassed former leader Jeff Dimeo. Dimeo, a 2000 graduate, has scored 1,571 career points.

Schmadel, a 6’3 senior, is averaging 20.6 points per game this season for No. 4 state-ranked Oriskany (17-0).
