The New Hartford Spartans 10 and under team defeated the Syracuse Blazers this afternoon by a score of 4-1 to claim the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Central Section, Tier II Championship.

The Spartans went undefeated in the eight team, pool play event, defeating Syracuse on Friday, followed by wins over Whitestown and Lysander on Saturday.

The Spartans knocked off the Binghamton Jr. Senators on Sunday morning to advance to this afternoon’s finale.

Syracuse bounced back from their game one loss to New Hartford by notching wins over Whitestown and Lysander on Saturday to qualify for the Final Four.

The Blazers then defeated Camillus in a thrilling semi-final game on Sunday morning, which was ultimately decided by a shootout after regulation time and overtime couldn’t decide a winner.

Both New Hartford and Syracuse now advance to the New York State Amateur Hockey Association Tournament in Niagara Falls, March 2-4.

Each of the state’s sections send both a #1 and a #2 seed to tate play.

By virtue of the win in today’s final, New Hartford will be among the #1 seeds to play in Niagara Falls.

Whitestown Youth Hockey Association played host to this weekend’s Sectional Tournamet at the Whitestown Community Center.

Eight teams competed in the event, which began on Friday afternoon, including qualified teams from Lysander, Binghamton, Elmira, Whitestown, Skaneateles, New Hartford, Camillus and Syracuse.
