Houghton, NY (April 26, 2014) – The Utica College women’s lacrosse team set a new program record for wins in a single season after defeating host Houghton 12-4 on Saturday afternoon. 

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2Utica’s Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) netted five goals and added one assist, while Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) set a new single-game school-record with six assists.

The Pioneers are now 10-5 overall headed into their final game of the season against Keuka College at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Kane and DuPont currently lead the team with 52 points each.  DuPont’s 43 assists this season are a new school-record.  Kane’s 42 goals this season are a new career-high and it also ranks ninth on the College’s single season list.

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) also added two goals for UC, while Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School), Coleen Dowling, Courtney Wheeler(Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy), Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) netted one goal apiece. Plunkett is tied for the team lead and ninth all-time with 42 goals this season. She ranks third on the squad with 47 total points.

Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) stopped four shots in the victory.  Freshman Tewasherake Barnes (Akwesasne, NY/Salmon River) finished off the contest in net for Utica.

Utica outshot Houghton 34-13 on the afternoon and the Pioneers also won the draw control battle 12-6.








Box Score Utica, NY (4/9/14)- The Utica College women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 19-2 victory over SUNYIT Wednesday evening.  With four assists, junior Morgan DuPont(Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) became the College’s all-time assist leader with 60 so far in her three-year career. 

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2UC jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as it picked up its seventh win of the season.  Utica is now 7-3 on the year; just two wins shy of its program-best nine wins in a single season.  The Pioneers are also a perfect 3-0 on the road this year. 

Ten different players scored on the day for UC, including junior Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) who netted a team-high five goals.  

Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy), Rebecca Plunkeet, Jackie Gould (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville), and Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each had two goals, and freshmenAmanda Chruscicki (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) and Xiomara Rodriguez (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) each netted their first collegiate tallies in the win.

The Pioneers return to action with an Empire 8 weekend road trip.  UC takes on Alfred University Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing Nazareth College Sunday, also at 1 p.m.

Utica, NY (4/6/14)- The Utica College women’s lacrosse team got back on track Sunday as it downed visiting Elmira College 12-7 in Empire 8 Conference action.  FreshmanRebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) led the Pioneers with five goals.
Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2Plunkett’s five scores were one shy of her career-best of six goals in one game.  She also had a game-high seven ground balls and seven draw controls. She now ranks third in the conference with 27 goals. 

 Junior Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) had one goal and three assists, upping her season assist total to a conference-best 26.
The Pioneers are now 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 Conference.  Meanwhile, Elmira drops to 4-7 overall, with a 1-3 mark in the E8.

Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) had five saves, while her counterpart, LeAnna Presler has 12 saves.  Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) picked up six ground balls, while senior Jennifer Rogaski (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) had four ground balls and two caused turnovers. 
Prior to the game, UC honored its six seniors Rogaski, Primps, Maines, Alexandra Balboni (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor)Lindsey Gelles (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park), and Keala King (St. Albans, VT/Bellows Free Academy).  The Pioneers hit the road for their next six games.   Next up, UC will meet cross-town rival, SUNYIT Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Utica, NY (March 28, 2014) – Stevens Institute of Technology sophomore standout Sarah Wilcox netted what proved to be the game-winner off a free-position attempt with 4:17 left in the contest to lift the visiting Ducks to an 11-10 victory over host Utica College in the Empire 8 Conference opener for the Pioneers on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium Friday afternoon.  Utica remains winless in seven tries all-time against Stevens, but Friday’s one goal game marks the closest the Pioneers have ever come to beating the Ducks in the series that dates back to 2008. 

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2The Pioneers snapped a four game winning streak and their record moved to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8.  Stevens has now won two in a row and moved its record to 4-5 overall, and the Ducks remain unblemished in conference play with a 2-0 record.  

UC junior Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) tied the school-record for assists in a single game with five and she now ranks third on the College’s career assist list with 46.  She now needs two more assists to tie Katlyn Banker ’12 for second all-time.  Tammy Kohanski ’11 holds the school’s career mark with 57 career assists.  DuPont’s 16 assists this season leads the Empire 8.

Utica trailed 10-7 with 15 minutes left in the contest until the Pioneers rattled off three straight goals in a span of 8:15 to knot the score at 10-10 with 6:07 left in regulation.  Sophomore midfielder Courtney Wheeler (Ava, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored the Pioneers 10th and final goal of the game. Wheeler finished the afternoon with one goal and one assist and she now has eight points this season (six goals, two assists).

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2Stevens’ sophomore Erika Wilcox netted the game-winner with 4:17 left off a free position shot and the Ducks were able to fend off several Pioneer attempts in the final minutes of the game to secure the victory.  Freshman goalie Janelle Welkie stopped five shots in net for the Ducks to pick up her first collegiate victory.  

Utica’s Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and freshman Rebecca Plunkett (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) each recorded three goals on the afternoon. Kane leads the team with 18 goals and four assists this season, while Plunkett is not far behind with 17 goals and two assists for a total of 19 points.

Utica jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 2:25 of the contest behind goals two goals from Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) and one from Julia Primps (Ossining, NY/Ossining).  Stevens answered right back and took a 4-3 lead with 13:35 left in the first half.

The Pioneers were able send the contest into the half tied at 4-4 after Plunkett scored her 15th of the season with 53 seconds left on the first half clock. Primps assisted on Plunkett’s first goal of the game. 

Womens_lacrosse_stick_head_2UC took a 5-4 lead early in the second half after Kane scored on the Pioneers’ first possession of the half at the 29:42 marker.

Stevens then went on another run, scoring three consecutive goals to take the lead right back, 7-5. Wilcox led the charge for the Ducks and finished the afternoon with a game-high four goals to give her 29 on the season.  Freshman midfielder Kathleen Kalbain picked up an incredible 12 ground balls and also added three points for the Ducks.

Utica was able to tie the score back up at 7-7 with 21:08 left in the game after Patricia Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) scored her sixth goal of the season. Stevens answered once again with three straight goals in a span of just 1:11 to take a 10-7 advantage with 18:09 left in the contest.

The final stat sheet was close all-around as Stevens edged UC in shots (22-21), ground balls (30-27) and each team registered 12 draw controls.

Megan Kane (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) led UC with nine ground balls, while senior Jennifer Rogaski (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Sophomore goalie Erin Jacobson (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) stopped five shots in her second loss of the season between the pipes for Utica. 

Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional), a two-sport athlete (women’s hockey, women’s lacrosse), found the back of the net for the second time this season in the Pioneer loss.

Utica turns right back around on Saturday as it hosts Hartwick College in an Empire 8 Conference contest at 1 p.m.

Assists Record: Coming into the season Morgan DuPont (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park) was eighth all time at UC in assists (30)… With her 11 assists thus far, DuPont is now tied with Laura Keating for fifth all-time… She needs just two more assists to pass Julianne Schultheiss for fourth all-time … Schultheiss dished out 42 assists between the years of 2008-2011.    

Scouting The Ducks: Stevens (3-5) is coming to Utica after winning its first conference game (14-9) on the road at Hartwick College… Sophomore Erika Wilcox leads the team with 33 points (25 goals, eight assists)… Wilcox is ranked first in the conference in points per game (4.13) and second in goals per game (3.13)… As a team, the Ducks are ranked second in the conference in goals per game (12.25) and points per game (16.38)… UC is winless against Stevens in the last six years. 

laxScouting the Hawks: Hartwick is coming to Utica after losing its first home conference game (9-14) to Stevens Institute of Technology… They are 4-4 to start the season… Freshman Lauren Rosenberg leads the team with 26 points (22 goals, four assists)… Rosenberg is ranked eighth in the conference in goals per game (2.75) and tenth in points per game (3.25)… As a team, the Hawks rank third in goals per game (11.00)… In the last 10 years, UC is 6-4 against Hartwick… The last time the Pioneers lost to the Hawks was on April 11, 2007 (11-13).
